ReplyDeleteThx!! About to post some here!
ReplyDeleteI was in Japan for a week and Australia for a week in ’69. I also went back to Australia for a couple of months a few year later. I had more problems getting around in Australia that Japan.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it is because Japan is so different people know to help you. The people in Australia want to help, but they do not realize you need it.
Australia has fast food places called “Take Aways”, which look like fast food places here in the US. But if you order at the counter, you have to leave. If you sit at a table, you will be waited on, and the price is much higher. I believe this is due to high taxes if you sit down.
I didn’t drive, but as they drive on the order side of the road, I found myself waiting for the bus on the wrong side of the street or looking the wrong way when crossing the street! Even walking toward someone on a sidewalk, I would always try to move to the right, and they would try to pass to their left. It is surprising to find out how much driving on the right effects the daily routine.
That is so true, Bill! I actually get confused now when people try to pass me on their right. That's insane about the restaurant tax...sounds like you might have had to find out the hard way. It's amazing, the little things we take for granted as "normal"!!
